Central America - Day 11 - Caye Caulker

Monday, March 24, 2014

San Pedro, Belize Cayes, Belize

Off to Caye Caulker today. We have to travel on a chicken bus again, but at least it is just one bus, not multiple ones like the last time.

Stephen ended up singing his hit song "Chicken Bus", something like "CHICKEN BUS... I'm going on a CHICKEN BUS", he sung it a few times and surprisingly no one told him to shut up, then again, he can look quite scary, but really he's a bit softy.

We arrived in Belize before catching a boat to Caye Caulker, the boat started to feel a little like a Chicken Bus as they kept on packing people in. Half way though the trip Poppy screamed out to everyone on the board "Ohhhh look, a Dolphin", I'm sure she almost gave some of the people a heart attack when she did that. however after the big fuss she made, she forgot to actually get a photo of the dolphin.

Once we all arrived on the island of Caye Caulker, most of us grabbed any washing we had and dropped it off to get washed, the majority of us are down to our last set of clean clothes, then headed off to get something to eat.

It's nice to see people on this island just relaxing and making sure everyone is having a great time, all the locals are smiling, and always tell you to slow down and relax, there is nothing on this island that you need to rush for.  They generally seem to love this plane and are all very friendly.

We then took off to 'The Split", which is part of the island which is has been cut in half and dredged up, one side is essentially is all the economy, and the other part is mainly wildlife and the occasional person lives there as well, it was a lovely swim and watching the sunset go down was fantastic as well.

Dinner tonight was at a place called Wish Willies, as we were walking down there we noticed a bike, it had something a little out of the ordinary attached to it... a machete, very odd, but I didn't question it. The guy who runs the Wish Willies cooks up fantastic BBQ meal of fish, pork, chicken, shrimp kebabs, and then unlimited Rum Punch. Some of the guys continued the evening down at a couple of bars drinking, while the rest of us decided to go back to the hotel and try and get some rest as tomorrow is going to be a big day of snorkeling.
